Camera and window checks in Live AI interviews
Available onEvery plan
A Live AI interview runs a small set of checks so your team has evidence to review. The results are notes for a person to look at. They are never a hiring decision.
The camera checks are required
The camera checks are part of every Live AI interview. The candidate agrees to them in the notice before the call. If they decline, they see:
The camera checks are part of this interview. If you can't use a camera, ask the hiring company for an accommodation.
An approved Interview without a camera or Turn off integrity checks accommodation waives the camera checks for that candidate. See Accommodations.
What the camera checks look at
The camera checks run on Infyva's own servers. During the call a still frame is checked every few seconds and then dropped. No frames are stored by the check, no face templates are made and no one is identified.
| Check | What it looks at | How it is reported |
|---|---|---|
| People in view | How many people are in front of the camera. | Face presence on the report. Marked for review when more than one person was in view, or when no one was in view in more than a quarter of the checks. |
| Facing the screen | Whether the candidate faces the screen, compared with how they sat at the start. | Looking away for about 30 seconds or more is marked for review, with the times, so a person can watch those moments. It is never a warning and never part of the score. |
| Camera during the call | Whether the camera stayed on. | A note, never a warning. |
People look away to think. The report says so next to the facing-the-screen note, and asks you to watch those moments in the recording before drawing a conclusion.
A dropped connection is never treated as the camera being off.
What is never checked
There is no voice check, no expression reading, no keystroke rhythm and no browser fingerprinting in a Live AI interview. Nova's score does not consider the candidate's accent, appearance, voice tone or emotions.
Window warnings
The candidate must keep the interview window in front and full size. The server counts these as warnings:
- Leaving the interview tab.
- Moving to another window for more than 2 seconds.
- Making the interview window much smaller than the screen.
Each warning shows on the candidate's screen as Warning 1 of 3, with what happened. Before the last one they see One more warning ends the interview.
The third warning ends the interview. The candidate sees that the interview ended after three warnings and that what they covered was sent to your company. Your report shows Interview ended after 3 window warnings.
If the candidate used I can't make this window full size in the device check, window size warnings are off for them. Leaving the window or the tab still counts. See What candidates need.
Conduct strikes
Nova expects a professional conversation. Only deliberate hostility aimed at the interviewer counts as a strike. Frustration, nerves or a bad moment do not.
- Each strike shows the candidate a warning: Please keep the conversation professional.
- After 3 strikes the interview ends under the conduct policy that Nova explained.
- Your report shows Interview ended early under the conduct policy with Strikes: 3 of 3.
Interviews ended by window warnings or conduct strikes use credits for the minutes used, at 0.5 credit per minute. See Minutes and billing.
Other checks on the report
| Row | What it means |
|---|---|
| Network | A network lookup when the candidate joins. Passing reads No VPN, proxy or hosting network found. |
| ID verification | Shown only when the job asked for an ID check. |
| Repeated or recited answers | Answers that repeat each other or read like a script. |
| Asked to skip several questions | A note only. It never needs review. |
Only checks that ran are reported. A check marked Not checked was not run. See Integrity evidence.
