Interview settings

Who can do thisOwners, admins and recruiters
Each job has its own interview defaults. The invite dialog starts from them, and you can still change most of them per invite.
To open them, go to the job, click the Settings tab, then Job settings. Change what you need and click Save settings. Changes apply to invites you send after saving.
Choose the interview type
Under Interview defaults, Interview type is AI interview: the candidate hears each question and records an answer, one way, at any time. Each interview uses 1 credit.
On every paid plan, you can choose Live AI interview instead, where Nova holds a real-time conversation with follow-up questions. Then pick a Live AI style: Structured covers your questions with follow-ups, Conversational improvises around the job's skills. See How Nova works.
If you don't see Live AI interview on your workspace, ask us to turn it on at support@infyva.ai.
Set the number of questions and the length
- Number of questions: 1 to 15. The default is 5. When the job asks every candidate the same set, the set's size is the question count, and this number sizes the set when it is written.
- Interview length (total, minutes): 5 to 180. The default is 30. This is the whole interview, including reading the questions and getting set up.
The hint under the length shows what candidates are told: "Candidates see one length: about 30 minutes in total, reading and setup included. Answer time per question: about 4 min 24 s."
How time per answer is worked out
You set the total length. Infyva keeps about 1 minute per question for reading it and 3 minutes for setup, and splits the rest evenly:
Time per answer = (total length, minus 1 minute per question, minus 3 minutes) divided by the number of questions
Each answer gets at least 30 seconds.
Worked example. A 30-minute interview with 5 questions:
- 30 minutes, minus 5 minutes for reading, minus 3 minutes for setup, leaves 22 minutes for answers.
- 22 minutes divided by 5 questions is 4.4 minutes.
- Each answer gets 4 minutes 24 seconds.
Candidates are told the length that results: answer time, plus a minute per question, plus 3 minutes, rounded up to the next 5 minutes. Here that is 30 minutes.
If the length is too short for the questions, each answer still gets 30 seconds and candidates are told the longer length that results. For example, 10 minutes with 8 questions gives 30 seconds per answer, and candidates are told about 15 minutes.
An approved extra-time accommodation multiplies the time per answer by 1.5 or 2. See Accommodations.
For Live AI interviews, the length is the session length. You choose it per job, from 20 to 60 minutes in 5-minute steps. Live AI uses 0.5 credit per minute of conversation. See Minutes and billing.
Choose voice or video answers
Under Answers, set Candidates answer by:
- Voice (the default): answers are recorded as audio and transcribed.
- Video (one-way): each answer is recorded on camera, and you can watch it in the report. Scores come only from what the candidate says, never from how they look. If a candidate's camera or connection can't handle video, that answer is kept as audio and the report says so.
For video, set Longest answer: 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3 (the default), 5 or 10 minutes. No answer runs past it, even when the length would allow more. A shorter cap also shortens the length candidates are told.
Either way, candidates record each answer once, as in a real interview: stopping the recording submits it.
Turn integrity checks on or off
Under Integrity checks, the switch is on by default. With it on, the interview notes tab switches, other windows in front, a much smaller window, pastes and screenshot shortcuts, and runs the camera check. See How AI interviews work.
Turning it off means the camera is never used and none of this is tracked, so reports carry no integrity flags. To turn checks off for one candidate only, use an accommodation on their invite instead. See Accommodations.
Ask for an ID check
Available onEvery plan
Shown only once an identity provider is switched on for your workspace.
With the ID check on, candidates photograph a government ID and take a selfie before the interview, and the two are compared automatically. It needs a separate consent and is optional for the candidate: declining never blocks the interview. Reports show Verified, Not verified or Not checked. Infyva never stores the images.
Each invite holds 1 extra credit for the check. It is used only when the candidate finishes the check, and comes back if they decline, abandon it or the interview is cancelled.
- Under ID verification, turn on ID check (+1 credit per candidate who completes it).
- Click Save settings.
The switch appears only once an identity provider is connected for your workspace. Until then, the section shows that ID verification is coming. To ask for it, email support@infyva.ai.
Set the interview language
Under Interview language, choose the Language, and optionally turn on Let candidates choose the language. See Set up interview questions for the 20 languages and how the choice works.
