Check your device

You don't need to install anything. Your interview runs in your web browser.

What you need

  • A current web browser. Open your link in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
  • A microphone. A built-in one is fine. A headset helps in a noisy place.
  • A camera. The interview includes a camera check, and some interviews record answers on video. If you can't use a camera, ask for an accommodation before you start.
  • A stable internet connection.
  • A quiet room where you won't be interrupted.

For a coding round, use a laptop or desktop with a keyboard. See Coding rounds.

Test your microphone early

If your interview is booked for a set time, your link opens a waiting page with Check your microphone (or Check your microphone and camera). It takes about 20 seconds and you can do it any time before your interview. Nothing is recorded. Click Play a test sound to check your speakers or headphones too.

The checks before your first question

Right before the interview, a screen called Let's get you set up runs a few quick checks:

  • Camera. Sit facing the camera with your face in view. The check only counts how many people are in view, and nothing is recorded. If it can't see your face clearly yet, you can still continue. It keeps trying during the interview.
  • Microphone. Say a few words, for example your name, until you see "We can hear you. Microphone OK."
  • Window size. Make the browser window full size (maximize it) so the interview fills your screen.
  • Connection. A quick check that you can reach us.

When everything passes, you see "All set. The first question starts when you continue."

If you can't make the window full size

Some people need a screen magnifier or another app open next to the interview. Click I can't make this window full size, add a reason if you like, and click Continue with this window. The hiring team sees that you couldn't use a full-size window, with your reason. Window size warnings are then off for your interview. Leaving the window or the tab still counts as a warning.

Phones and tablets skip the window size check.

If your camera or microphone is blocked

If your browser blocked access, allow it and reload the page:

  • Chrome: click the camera or lock icon at the left of the address bar, set the camera or microphone to Allow, then reload.
  • Edge: click the lock icon at the left of the address bar, allow the device, then reload.
  • Firefox: click the camera or microphone icon in the address bar and remove the block, then reload.
  • Safari: open the Safari menu, then Settings for this website, allow the device, then reload.
  • On a phone: also allow the camera and microphone for your browser in your phone's settings.

If it still doesn't work, close other apps that might be using your camera or microphone, such as a video call, and try again.

If you see "This browser cannot use a microphone", open your link in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
