Coding rounds

In a Vibe coding round you build or fix real code in your browser. Depending on the company, an AI assistant can help you. Using the assistant is allowed and expected when it's there.

Before you start

  • Use a laptop or desktop. The round puts a code editor, a test runner and an assistant side by side, so it needs a bigger screen and a keyboard. On a phone or a small window, you can copy your link or email it to yourself and open it on a computer. Your time only starts when you press Start.
  • Read the notice. It explains what is recorded and how your work is evaluated. Your time doesn't start until you continue.
  • Read the intro. It tells you the time limit, the language (Python or JavaScript, standard library only), how much the assistant can help, and how many hidden checks run on your final code.

When you're ready, click Start the round. If now isn't a good time, click I can't do it now to ask for another time.

How the assistant works

The intro tells you which kind you have:

  • Full help. Ask questions and ask for changes. When the assistant suggests a change, you see the difference and choose to accept or reject it.
  • Hints only. It explains errors and gives hints. It doesn't write code for you.
  • Off. No assistant. Work on your own, as in a take-home task.

While you work

  1. Read the brief and open the files.
  2. Change the code in the editor. Your work saves automatically.
  3. Click Run tests (or press Ctrl or Cmd + Enter) as often as you like.
  4. Click Submit when you're done.

The status at the top shows whether your work is saved. If your connection drops, your edits stay on your device and are sent when you're back online.

The timer

  • You see a reminder at 10, 5 and 1 minutes left.
  • When time runs out, the editor locks and your work is submitted for you.
  • Work that reached us before the deadline is what gets reviewed. We can't accept saves after it.
  • If some of your last edits didn't reach us in time, the final screen names the files and lets you click Download these edits, so you can send them to your recruiter.

How you're evaluated

  • Whether your final code passes the hidden checks.
  • The quality of your code.
  • How you solved the problem.
  • When there is an assistant, how you worked with it: clear requests, and checking its suggestions before relying on them.

A person at the hiring company makes the decision.

What is noted

Leaving the tab and pasting large blocks of code are noted for the hiring team. Your camera and microphone are not used in a coding round.

After you submit

You see "Your Vibe coding round is submitted" and get a confirmation email. If you'd like a person to look at your result again, reply to that email.

Your code, test runs and assistant conversation are kept for 2 years with the report.
