Live AI interviews
In a Live AI interview you have a real-time conversation with Nova, an AI interviewer. Nova asks questions, listens, and asks follow-up questions about what you said, much like a person would. It takes place at a booked time and lasts between 20 and 60 minutes. Your invite tells you how long yours is.
Joining at your time
You can join up to 15 minutes before the start time. If you open your link earlier, you see when your interview opens, in your own time zone. Keep the page open and it opens on its own, or come back from your invite link. Nothing is recorded before you start.
Need a different time? Reply to your invite email. The hiring team can move it for you.
Before you start
- Read the notice. It explains what is recorded and how your answers are scored. Your camera and microphone stay off until you agree.
- Check your device. A few quick checks of your camera, microphone, window size and connection. See Check your device.
- Join. Nova joins the call, usually within 5 to 10 seconds. Say hi back and Nova takes it from there.
There is no practice question before a Live AI interview.
What you agree to
- Recording. The interview is recorded, audio and video. The recording is deleted after 90 days.
- AI scoring. You talk with an AI interviewer, and AI scores your answers on the job's skills. It does not score your accent, appearance, voice tone or emotions. A person at the hiring company makes the decision.
- Camera checks. During the whole interview, the camera checks that one person is in view and facing the screen. They don't identify you, no face template is made, and no frame is kept.
The camera checks are part of the interview. If you can't use a camera, ask for an accommodation before you start.
Someone from the hiring team may watch and listen while the interview happens. They can't be seen or heard, can't interrupt, and see no scores during the call.
During the conversation
- Speak naturally, as you would with a person.
- Nova may appear as a talking video face, or by voice only.
- You can mute your microphone. Nova can't hear you while you're muted.
- You can show a live transcript of the conversation.
- Near the end you see how many minutes are left, then "Wrapping up, about a minute left". It's your last chance to ask anything you'd like.
It's fine to look away to think. Looking away for a while is only noted for the hiring team, never a warning.
Warnings
Keep the interview window in front and full size until you finish. Leaving the interview window, or making it much smaller than your screen, is a warning ("Warning 1 of 3"). The third warning ends the interview, and what you covered is sent to the hiring company.
A dropped connection is never a warning.
Nova also asks everyone to keep the conversation professional. Being frustrated is fine. Only deliberate hostility aimed at the interviewer counts against the conduct policy.
Ending the interview
Nova closes the conversation when the time is up. You can also click End interview. You can't come back to the same session after ending it, and the hiring team sees what you covered.
When you finish, you see "Thanks, your interview is complete." The hiring company reviews it and gets in touch. You can also ask for a person to review your interview. See Ask for an accommodation.
If Nova can't join
Sometimes our interviewer can't start. You see "We couldn't start your interviewer". This is a problem on our side, not yours. Nothing was recorded and it doesn't count against you. Click Try again after a moment.
If it still doesn't work, the hiring team is told and can send you a new invite.
If a problem on our side stops the interview partway, it isn't counted against you and isn't scored. The hiring team is told and can send you a new invite.
If your connection drops
See I lost connection.
